Rep. Linda Sanchez expecting her first child
California Democratic Rep. Linda Sanchez is pregnant with her first child.
Sanchez, 39, is due May 21 and plans to marry her boyfriend of a year and a half, consultant Jim Sullivan, her spokeswoman Marsha Catron said Thursday.
The two met through a mutual friend, Rep. John Larson, D-Conn. No wedding date has been set.
'I've been called a labor leader, U.S. representative, chairwoman, and now I will be proud to be called 'mom,'' Sanchez said in a statement.
'I know that working mothers everywhere balance their time with parenthood and a career, and a congresswoman is no different,' she said. 'The only thing I am worried about balancing with this pregnancy are my favorite pair of heels!'

Black caucus says no special relationship to Obama
Black leaders in Congress don't expect to have an especially close relationship with President-elect Barack Obama.
That attitude reflects in part Obama's nontraditional path to the presidency: He didn't pass through the crucible of civil rights and form alliances there.
As if trying to make the point, Congressional Black Caucus members announcing their new leadership at a news conference Thursday didn't even mention Obama's name until asked by reporters.
The all-Democratic, 43-member group has had a somewhat uneasy relationship with the president-elect, who for four years when he represented Illinois in the Senate rarely participated in caucus activities. Some black lawmakers wished he had been more involved.

Federal judges to hear Murtha defamation case
Federal judges will hear arguments about whether Pennsylvania Rep. John Murtha should have to give a sworn deposition about his comments alleging 'cold-blooded murder and war crimes' by unnamed Marines in connection with Iraqi civilian deaths in Haditha.
The case goes before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia on Tuesday morning.
The lawsuit was filed by Staff Sgt. Frank Wuterich, the only person still facing charges in the Haditha case.
The Justice Department wanted the case dismissed because Murtha was acting in his official role when he made the comments on Capitol Hill in 2005.

Top salesmen for financial bailout face grilling
The two top salesmen for a $700 billion financial bailout are in for a grilling by Capitol Hill lawmakers just one week after the administration officially ditched the original strategy behind the rescue.
Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson are expected to provide greater insights into the shift when they testify Tuesday before the House Financial Services Committee.
Paulson, who is overseeing the bailout program for the Bush administration, changed course and announced last week that the government would not use any of the money to buy rotten mortgages and other bad assets from banks. That had been the centerpiece of the plan when Paulson and Bernanke originally pitched it to lawmakers.
