"...a weapon readily available for purchase in the United States that has been used in several recent gang-style hits."

Please, Darren Meritz and Aileen B. Flores are showing their ignorance of firearms, and the El Paso newspaper is publishing it. The average citizen cannot purchase a 'AK-47' in the US; however, they are available on Mexico's southern border for $5.00 US.
What is available here in the US is a look alike, which is not automatic. The government of Mexico likes to say the weapons are coming from the US, but they are not willing to crack down on the smuggling routes, as they are the same routes and smugglers who are paying bribes, that send illegals and dope north into the US, and money south into Mexico.

Just think for a moment, how stupid your statement is. A $5.00 Ak47 ,that would mean that all these idiots in Mexico didnot know your secret. I mean they are in Mexico ,it would be easier for them to go get the ak's from there than to get it in America ,pay big bucks and than have to cross it back. You like to read, and you only listen to what you want to hear.

In Mexico, only criminals, police and military have guns. It is illegal for honest citizens to have guns, as such, we are at the mercy of those who have guns.

You can see that those who have guns control the drug trade.

Drugs are not the problem, it is the illegality of the drugs that are causing the killings and violence.

We had alcohol prohibition in the 1920's with the same results and it was repealed.

If you want to end this problem, legalize drugs, regulate them and treat the abusers as a medical problem, not a criminal one.

The group that is most opposed to legalization are not the right wingers, but the cartels themselves.

Those that don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

How many more victims will the drug war create until we change our policies.

The definition of insanity is when you try the same thing over and over, yet expect different results. So goes the war on drugs.

"Chihuahua State Police"

I'd considering changing the name (LOL).

WHEN is the Government going to step up and stop letting these people over the border? The Border Patrol is severely understaffed and the Minute Men are always getting punished for doing the job the Government won't do. A secure border doesn't mean we're being 'unfriendly' to Mexico. We have the right to protect our country and our people from those who come across the border illegally and who want to break our laws!

I personally knew these people... all they were maquiladora employees (Enlight) at Juarez ... Ivan Samudio was Production Supervisor, Isidro Platas was Production line Group Leader, Rito Dorantes was Material Handler, the rest was technicians...
My message is clear: in this specific case, were not related to any cartel drug... those people were innocent.

Now that innocent people might be getting killed, will the people of Mexico rise up and defend their nation against these thugs?

It's funny how the Mexicans living here pretend to be so proud, wave their flags in our faces and shout Viva Mexico but I don't think you can count on them to do a single thing beyond that.

Maquiladora employees can afford to eat in an "upscale restaurant". I thought that those jobs paid very poorly. Hmmmmm...... maybe they had other jobs on the side?
I find it hard to believe that 8 people were killed "cartel style" whilst having no connections to the cartels.
