Mark Rosenkranz Was Hightlighted Along Side This Year's President Elect Barack Obama in a 2006 Issue of JET Magazine.
The book, "White Male Privilege", gives the reader tools on how to combat racism. Pleasanton, CA (PRWEB) November 9, 2008 -- Mark Rosenkranz decribes the details of the alleged beating by the SFPD on a San Francisco night in the book, "White Male Privilege," which provides a study of racism in America 40 years after the Voting Rights Act. His book includes insights and commentary on racism allegedly experienced by Lynn Swann, a pro football hall-of-famer. In the Declaration of Independence, the founding fathers declared, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal," and yet, it would be another 191 years before Americans would be equal by law. It has been suggested that with the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, America had finally overcome its ugly past of racism and discrimination. As we entered into the new millennium, the author wondered if America had really set aside its biased and discriminatory practices. The author interviewed eight people as he developed the foundations for this book. One of the people he was honored to interview was Brian Swann DDS, the brother of famous footballer Lynn Swann. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal Brian shared his story of a racially motivated encounter that he and his brother's had experienced in the 1970's in San Francisco, California, at the hands of the San Francisco Police Department. Each of the eight people interviewed for this book brought with them a different experience and viewpoint as it relates to discrimination and racism in America, and more specifically, white male privilege in America. The author brought these eight individual viewpoints together, and told their story as they relate to American history, from the early days of colonization through the present day. According to Mark Rosenkranz, "Some people are being slapped in the face and they don't even know it. It is not just about being black or white. It is also about economics and social stratification. Like Tim Wise said,'divide and conquer.' We were taught to be white. The concept of whiteness didn't exist until after America was discovered. In reality,'America' was taken from the American Indian people. Take a look at some of the videos Tim Wise can be seen on. Some of these videos have been put on YouTube. Tim, thank you for the insights you continue to provide." Check out "White Male Privilege" at http://www.amazon.com/White-Male-Privilege-Ra .... |

the whole concept of white male privilege is not just racist but sexist. There are no laws allowing for any special treatment of white males, except discriminatory AA programs.
Stop with this leftist BS |

1 This is a canned argument used frequently when this subject comes up, but it is flawed. Ebony Mag, BET, etc...target a cultural demographic. Yes, Black culture, but this is no different than Country radio. Also, we can't ignore the fact that just as many, if not more, Whites & Others watch BET as Blacks. Your point, as far as "acting like equals" is a good one, but your example is terrible. We will never be equal on a cultural level, and by "we" I mean people in general (not any ethnic, religious or any of the other buckets we decide to divide ourselves into). The equality has to be on a human level. |

Sorry, Sounds, I don't buy it. Look at the first two posts after mine. Ignorant people who toss out insults and claim "racism" as soon as something is said that may be considered derogatory. Read my post and answer the questions, there was nothing racist in that post. Then you say BET and Ebony are the same as country radio. That is ridiculous. How does country music and a Black Comedy Festival even compare? It is not called White Country Music. That would be racist and the picket signs and violence would erupt around Nashville. Country is a genre of music, like Rap or Hip Hop. A Black Comedy Festival or Black Entertainment Television is totally different. If it just to target a specific ethnic demographic, then what would happen if I started The White Channel? Would you let me have the White Comedy Festival? Why would that be such a disgrace and insensitive but the other ethnic demographic targeting shows are not?

I didn't mean to imply you were making racist claims. I didn't read it that way, and I don't endorse those that did.
My point still holds. I can call my event a Black Comedy Festival, and as long as anybody can get a ticket and attend my event, it's not separatists. It's marketing! Country radio is the same thing, it's a branding tool to let people that like Travis and Trent know where to go. Putting "Black" on something differentiates it from "normal" and "main-stream". I could go on to make the point that Blacks make up about 10% of the population, so "normal" and "mainstream" typically means White...so you will never need a "White" Television Network,(well, not until the Hispanic population becomes the majority). Lastly, Yes there would be picket signs if you didn't let me in to see Sugarland and Brooks & Dunn. I like Country music. Just like you should be pissed if I don't let you in to to see Chris Rock. Again, we're on the same page, but I would use a different argument. |

Thanks for helping me make my point. You can have a Black Comedy Festival and let anyone in? People would know that it is not "Mainstream" or "Normal"? First of all, that is what I am saying. As long black people feel that they have to differentiate themselves and have special labels, then how can there be equality? Are you saying that black people are not "normal". You are taking the movement back a ways!
Country radio is for country music, not white people or normal people or mainstream people. Are you forgetting Charlie Pride, Deford Bailey or even Darius Rucker? Country is not a white person label. That is a lousy arugment. Country Music mean white people, that is racist. And, if I had a White Music Festival, and promised to let everyone in, do you honestly think that it would be okay? How about I just have "The Normal, Mainstream Comedy Festival". DO you think black comedians would attend? |

This is funny. Again,we're saying the same thing - I'm just not playing the race card. Let's look at this in pieces, because the greater point is getting lost.
A Black Comedy Fest, a Puerto Rican Parade, the Scottish thing we have in Livermore every year, the Greek Festival, I could go on...these are not racially (more appropriately, ethnically) divisive things. They are cultural events. I know your not only applying your argument to "Black", so do we also have to do away with all ethnic labels to achieve equality? Of course not. Let's expand this to your other example, BET. This is where it gets real interesting...most major Black media entities are white owned. These guys understand that "Black" is another market to make money. The "Black" Hair Supply stores you see in the cities, are all Korean owned. These tags are Marketing, not some grand racial statement. Latinos are the new marketing gold mine, so get ready for more Latin oriented events, media, etc...it's already out there, but soon it'll be more widespread. Culturally? No. Good luck telling any other ethnicity that they're "Normal" (see examples above). Can I be Black, Scottish, Gay, short, blond, Catholic, Muslim, Southern, 18-25yr old single male, 35-45 yr old married female (insert the multitude of other labels we assign ourselves) and still be human? Still be American? Yes. So because I attend Black events, watch Latino TV, eat at Chinese restaurants, or throw telephone poles around in a kilt, that doesn't mean I don't expect to be equal. Normal? no thanks. Equal? Yes. I never said Country was for whites only. In fact, I said I liked Country (some of it). I did say it was a label used to let other folks that like country know where to tune their radio, or cable channels(see previous post). Would they get paid? Yes. Then hell yeah. And if I was in the mood for some normal mainstream humor, I'd go too. But that doesn't sound very interesting does it? You wouldn't make very much money. Which is why we get back to labels, to make it interesting and target a demo. Blue Collar Comedy Tour, Latin Kings of Comedy, Black Comedy Festival, Lilith Fair, Riverdance....the list goes on. |

Pretty interesting stuff... I can see the point on both sides. Sounds, you are very intelligent and make a great arguement on your believes...unfortunately, I don't agree 100 percent. Again, I think you make some great points, that float lightly on the surface. I think, maybe, white folk are rubbed a little raw with BET and Ebony and all those other things. I think maybe, it's because all these years of equality being fed to us may have made us overly sensitive (all of us) Everything a white man says has to have some type of racist background, and on the flip side, things like BET seem to be exactly what we have been told not to do. It's a double edged sword... kinda like saying, don't play with that sword, and then going over and picking it up yourself, swinging it around and yelling Banzai.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I see why people have issues now. I think some white people have become way more sensitive to race then most anyone else. That is why public entities and organizations which are inherently "black" do cause a little backlash. We are certainly tired of hearing how racist we are!!! |
