If you have a good auto insurance agent who has provided you with good auto insurance, then ALWAYS file the claim with your very own carrier. You will be required to pay your deductible, but your damages will be paid immediately. Your carrier will 'subrogate' against the at-fault driver, or that driver's carrier to recoup your deductible and the damages paid out on your policy. If your own agent tells you otherwise, fire your agent and find a better one.

Vicki, You should contact your state insurance commission and file a complaint. Bristol-West is what is known as a Non-Standard insurance company-meaning they typically insure people with a lot of tickets or accidents on their background. I work for an insurance company and have dealt with a similar company in my personal experiences. You will quickly get their attention with a DOI (Division of Insurance) complaint against them. And DO not sign a waiver to NOT pursue any further, until you are happy with their settlement. Good Luck, Girl! vicki wrote: I was involed in a accdent where the other party was found at fault she had bristol west insurance. what a run around they have given me. It happened almost a year ago and And they still have not payed me. I have tried for 4 months now to get the adjuster to call me back leaving 1 to 2 messages a week. Ive asked to talk to her supervisor and get his voice mail and he does not return my calls aswell. I know the law states that I should be payed in a fastly mannor, what do you think

Johann wrote: Suggest that you take a look at the ownership of Bristol West. Think you MAY find that it is a wholly owned subsidery of Farmers Insurance Group who in turn is owned by Zurich of Switzerland. Same for Foremost Insurance who is owned by Farmers Group Inc. I just talked to my Farmers Rep who recommends Bristol West for my teenage son & I. He's had 2 tickets & 2 fender benders (sigh) and I have to insure him. He gave me a low quote. Said Farmers just purchased BW 8 months ago. Never heard of them so I googled & this is what I read... all these complaints! Yikes. I've been a member of Farmers for 20 yrs w/no problems. My son screws up a few times and Farmers dumps me and my son (I have 1 small accident in 20 yrs). I think I'll get quotes from other companies. Do you think now that Farmers purchased this company that it will get better? Any complaints or comments from the last 8 months?

I recently had hit a deer and ended up in a ditch against a utility pole. Someone had came out and did an adjustment but haven't heard anything since. They will not return my calls and won't do anything about it. They told me they wanted to total my car out but of course now can't get ahold of anyone. This is the worst insurance company i've ever dealt with. I will not reccomend this company to anyone. The customer service people are so rude, they cut you off and just transfer you to anyone besides them. This has been a horrible experience foe me.

Dirk Diggler wrote: I can provide you with numbers to the VP of Claims and other higher ups that will get your claims paid. Trust me, these clowns push their adjusters hard but when they have to actually handle a claim they will pay anything to get off the phone. Anyone want this information? please let me have the numbers, because I'm the policy holder and driver, now because of my 2 brothers were in the car at the time of accident it's been over a month, still no answer from Bristol and my car is not drivable.

Bristol is not different than any other insurance company. If you were to research each company you would find as many complaints for them also!!! I sell for Bristol and find that they are a good company.

I was hit by a driver with this insurance, and it's only been 5 days since the accident, however, I have not been able to contact my adjuster, and nobody has returned my calls. I'm still able to drive my car, however I cannot open the passenger side door in the front, and I have medical bills and loss of time from work I'm trying to be compensated for. This company is very frustrating!

I was hit by a driver with bristol west insurance on Oct. 22nd around noon. Today it is Dec. 18th and they still have not paid me. It took them 2 weeks just to get me a rental and I had to return that on Dec. 5th but yet My car is totaled and I still have not recieved anything. I have been calling my adjuster everyday for the past 2 weeks leaving him voicemail after voicemail and still have not recieved a call back from him. I would never get insurance through this company and its sad that I have to deal with all of this when the accident wasn't even my fault.

The way Bristol west employees have treated me makes no since I can name many many insurance companies that are alot better. Actually I can't name any insurance companys that aren't better. This is the worst company I have ever dealt with...

Let your insurance company deal with them. I live here in California (the worst place for uninsured drivers, and drivers for that matter). I was involved in an accident with one of these Bristol drivers, their fault, and I called MY insurance company, STATE FARM, and they took care of everything (that is what I pay them for)
However, this only works for those of us who have FULL coverage not just pl/pd

I won a judgement against Bristol West on October 6, 2008. They had 30 days to pay me. Now it is December 22 and I still do not have anything except a lot of excuses why they haven't sent a check and a lot of unreturned calls. I'm in Indiana

I was involved in an accident November 27,2008 where my wife was injured and the investigating officer cited the driver of the other vehicle for making an illegal left turn in front of my car. The owner of the other car has Bristol West Insurance and at first they declared that since the owner wasn't driving that they were not going to pay for the damages on my car. It was a total loss according to their adjuster. Most recently I received a letter that declared that Bristol would pay 75% as full and final settlement of my car damages, which included 15 days loss of use less salvage. They further stated that "Our investigation reveals that our insured almost completed crossing the intersection, when she was struck in the right rear, which clearly indicates that our insured had control of the roadway." I have filed a complaint with the Florida Insurance Commission in Tallahassee and it looks like I may have to hire a lawyer to get a fair settlement from this Wretched company. I can't believe they are still in business after reading some of these complaints against them. singerbill@mail.com

Listen guys I thought I was the only person with this problem. My problem is a little different but I'm having communication with them. Lets but it like this My car was stolen while deployed, recovered by the police and impounded. Now I owe $2500.00 to the towing companyand accumulating til this day because I cant get the adjuster to get back to me. How about that? Lets get this class action suit together.

Regardless of what type of insurance claim you have in progress, you are responsible to the lienholder or whomever to pay for merchandise received or services rendered. You, the individual who signed a contract with the finance company, are solely responsible for any monies borrowed. Noble wrote: Why don't you just do what any normal rational person would do and send your finance company a copy of your insurance policy.? <quoted text>
